Freddie was a healthy 1 yr old boy with loving parents. Sadly and ultimately tragically, he was diagnosed with a Rhabdoid sarcoma, had surgery and commenced on chemotherapy. Just 6 weeks later, a hospice referral was made. Freddie continued to receive active treatment and was at the same time under the care of the specialist palliative care team. 2 months later, Freddie had an emergency admission to hospital after deteriorating with vomiting and infection. He was transferred to the Children’s Hospice where he sadly died 4 days later.

Freddie’s mum described the care she received as fantastic from everyone. Everyone did their best for Freddie. Good communication between professionals, good team work with parents wishes for end of life care met in full. Parents wishes for memory making activities were achieved. Good step-down care was provided by the hospice which helped Freddie and his parents to see the hospice as a safe and happy place.
